Wham! - Last Christmas - Official Music Video
Wham! - Last Christmas video. "Last Christmas" is a song by British pop duo Wham!, released on Epic Records in 1984, on a double A-side with "Everything She Wants". It was written by George Michael, one half of the duo. Wham! had been a dominant force in the UK Singles Chart in 1984 and news that they were planning a Christmas single meant that a battle for the coveted Christmas #1 spot in the UK seemed set to be between Wham! and the year's other big act, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, who had achieved a third #1 in early December with "The Power of Love". However, the Band Aid project, helmed by Bob Geldof, produced the #1 single. Wham!'s offering peaked at #2 for much of the period, although George's involvement in Band Aid meant that Wham! still had an input. Wham! subsequently topped the monies raised by Band Aid by donating all of their "Last Christmas/Everything She Wants" royalties to the Ethiopian famine appeal. "Last Christmas" did make #1 in various other countries. The single sold well over a million copies and became the biggest selling single in UK chart history not to reach #1. A year later, it was re-issued for Christmas again (this time without a billed flip-side) and got to #6. A second re-issue at Christmas 1986 - by which time Wham! had split - stalled outside the top 40. The song gradually sold in Japan, and finally became the best-selling single that did not reach that country's top-10 chart, selling more than 600000 copies and peaking on the chart at ...

The Aswad
ROOTS REGGAE MUSIC ASWAD The band's formation in 1975 and their full emergence in 1976, when they were snapped up by Island Records, marked a significant point in Reggae history because they were the first UK band to be signed by a major company. Not only was Aswad's sound authentic and militant but positively original, unlike many of their Jamaican counterparts. Aswad's first single was released in 1976. "Back To Africa", featuring a cool, rock-steady rhythm and crisp rim shots from Drummie, it was a soaring vocal cry for a return to their homeland. The dub side was a wicked bass and drum scorcher giving scope to those aching harmonies and. like the vocal mix, proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that good reggae could be made right here in Britain. The proof of their acceptance by reggae purists was when "Back To Africa" rocketed to Number One in the reggae charts. The band's debut album, simply entitled "Aswad" confirmed their remarkable talent and originality. From the lovers-rock inspired "Irie Woman" through to such beautiful dub passages as "Ethiopian Rhapsody" the music reflected the experience of British blacks. This was particularly evident on their second single, "Three Babylon", released in 1976. The song struck out against the continual harassment of young blacks by the police. Aswad eventually broke away from Island to release "It's not Our Wish", "It's not our wish that we should fight but it's our wish that we should be free, equal rights stands for all ...

Carlos Gallardo Feat. Rob Harris - Fantasy Girl (t. Tommy Remix)
www.facebook.com djpatrickvannegri.podomatic.com Carlos Gallardo Feat. Rob Harris - Fantasy Girl (T. Tommy Remix) Support the artist and get your legal copy: www.beatport.com For the past three years, Tommy T (Thomas T Gobena) has been the bass player for gypsy punk powerhouse Gogol Bordello, the New York City-based band known for their blend of Gypsy, punk, dub reggae, metal and flamenco. Tommy was born and raised in Ethiopia and the knowledge of global rhythms he brings to Gogol's sound has become part of their unclassifiable approach to music making. With the encouragement of his Gogol Bordello band mates, Tommy has produced his first solo effort, The Prester John Sessions, an aural travelogue that rages freely through the music and culture of Ethiopia. "In the 70s, funk, wah-wah pedals, and jazz had a huge impact on Ethiopian music," Tommy explains. "The Prester John Sessions will give people an idea about the musical diversity of Ethiopia, which includes influences and ideas borrowed from the sounds of the 70's with the added bonus of up-to-date production values." Tommy discovered the story of Prester John in Graham Hancock's book The Sign and the Seal. "Hancock was looking for the Biblical Ark of the Covenant," Tommy says. "His quest led him around the world, from Middle East to Europe and back to Ethiopia. While doing his research, Hancock discovered the legend of Prester John. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Prester John was an unknown Christian king with massive ...

Mykal Rose - Never Surrender Love 2010 Never Surrender
Heartical Label Presents One of Jamaica's most distinguished singers, as a member of Black Uhuru Michael Rose was one of the foundation stones of the roots movement, before launching a successful career in the modern dancehalls. His work with Uhuru helped bring the group a Grammy, while his distinctive vocals launched an entire musical style -- the Waterhouse sound. The Kingston neighborhood of Waterhouse is where Rose was born, on July 11, 1957. There, Rose grew up with a love of music, and began his career when barely into his teens competing in talent contests, and then working the North Coast hotel circuit. At 15, he returned to the capital and cut his first single, a DJ version of Andel Forgie's "Woman a Gineal fe True" for producer Newton Simmons. That barely hinted at what was to come. Soon after, Rose linked up with childhood friend Sly Dunbar, who brought him to meet producer Niney Holness. The singer cut a number of songs for Holness during 1972: "Clap the Barber," "Love Between Us," "Freedom Over Me," and best of all, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Although, none of these songs fired the charts, Rose was already putting into place a sound and vision that would shake the music world. Through Holness, Rose also came to cut a song for Lee Perry, "Observe Life"; it too did little. However, Dunbar encouraged his friend to keep writing, which Rose did while the drummer toured with Peter Tosh. Upon his return, Dunbar brought the singer to Prince Jammy. Jammy then ...
